Semaglutide Injections
-
The active ingredient in the medications Ozempic, approved to treat diabetes, and Wegovy, approved to treat obesity. Studies have shown these medications results in significant weight loss in people who have high body mass indexes (BMIs). It is a GLP-1 receptor agonist which enhances insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon secretion. This results in a decreased appetite which reduces food intake and slows gastric emptying which results in a sensation of feeling full for longer periods.
-
A once weekly subcutaneous, or under the skin, injection to the abdomen, arm, or upper thigh.
-
How quickly one may notice their weight loss can vary amongst each person, and depends on your commitment to diet and exercise as well.
Dosing is slowly increased over 4 week increments tailored to fit your progress and needs. It may take several months to reach an effective dose. Once you reach your goal weight, we will determine whether maintenance dosing would be best for you.
-
Most often these are gastrointestinal including; nausea, vomiting, heartburn, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation. Additional, more rare side effects will be discussed at length during a consultation.
Tirzepatide Injections
-
The active ingredient in the drug known as Mounjaro or Zepbound. It has been found to result in significant weight loss in people who have a high body mass index(BMI). It is a GLP-1 agonist & a GIP agonist, for a dual receptor approach compared to Semaglutide which acts on GLP receptors alone! This enhances insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon secretion. Results are a decreased appetite which reduces food intake and provides prolonged satiety, or a sensation of feeling full for longer periods.
-
Both drugs are approved to treat diabetes, and also results in weight loss.
Both are a once weekly injection, given on the same day each week.
According to research patients have achieved a larger proportion of weight reduction on tirzepatide with a loss of 20.9%, compared to semaglutide with a loss of 15.8%.
